Branduin member Tim Seabourne works with Spark!, an organisation which is an Education & Business Partnership supported by Hounslow. Spark! find inspiring opportunities for young people to gain work experience, understand the labour market and develop confident enterprise and employability skills. Tim volunteers for them at events in schools usually in 2 ways – conducting mock job interviews for those about to enter the workplace, and taking part in Speed Networking events at Career days to answer kids questions about the world of work. Tim have done these events both in mainstream schools and a couple at a special needs school for children with autism and last year Tim was nominated for Business Volunteer of the Year for this work.

Branduin member, Ges Ray, is a Trustee of NewSPAL. A registered charity, set up to establish a secure future for the Surrey Performing Arts Library, currently run by Surrey County Council (SCC). In the face of significant budget challenges, SCC had planned to close the dedicated performing arts library at Denbies Vinyard and split the collection, losing the integrity and sustainability of this unique resource, as well as specialist staff and knowledge. We have been campaigning and building support for pledges of skills and resources for the library to be handed over to NewSPAL to both run the library on a commercial basis and preserve this unique yet well used collection of music scores and drama scripts – 3rd largest in the UK – for the performing arts community in Surrey, Sussex and beyond.

FHYMFriend of Herts Country Youth Music Group

The Friends Association supports all of Hertfordshire’s County Youth Music Groups to enhance young peoples’ musical experiences and opportunities. Hertfordshire has probably the best music education structure in the country, but in these times of austerity this needs a lot of support from outside sources, FHYM is a charity which has been established to help with that support. Nicola Ryall is on the committee team, as secretary providing her time and support where needed.
